Laboratory Question for the Week of July 10, 2023

Question:

Are there still coding and compliance risks posed by COVID-19 testing and protocol? Is there a potential for audits in the future?

Answer:

There is undoubtedly potential for audits. The expectation (or suspicion) across the industry is that there will be audits conducted by every entity involved in any type of payment related to COVID-19. Whether the monies came from the CARES Act funds, HRSA funds, or third-party payers, audits for compliance with COVID-19 guidelines are a definite yes.
