Question:

What changes did the interim final rule bring for COVID-19 specimen collection?

Answer:

The interim final rule established some key changes for specimen collection during the PHE for the COVID-19 pandemic:

  • The creation of the two G-codes (previously listed) to report specimen collection for COVID- 19 testing with associated payment rates.
  • Establishes the definition of a home-bound patient for the purposes of specimen collection during the PHE.
  • Enables electronic mileage records for specimen collection payment during the PHE.
