Laboratory Question for the Week of June 24, 2024

Question:

When you perform AHG technique, do you report all three of the codes, or just 86922?

Answer:

To avoid triggering an NCCI edit, report the immediate spin technique described by CPT® 86920 and/or the AHG technique described by CPT® 86922, if performed. The incubation technique is considered a sequential procedure that is bundled into CPT 86920. Only those crossmatching techniques used should be included on the claim. The billing unit should reflect the number of times the technique is performed.
