Question:

Can we use the TC modifier with 88291?

Answer:

The Medicare physician fee schedule identifies code 88291 as a professional component-only code. The code represents the physician’s work portion of the cytogenetic study with the technical component of the diagnostic test being associated with codes 88230–88289. Use of the TC modifier is not appropriate with 88291.
