Laboratory Question for the Week of October 12, 2020

Question:

How many components of a complete blood count should be ordered if we want to report a comprehensive code?

Answer:

At least three components of a complete blood count must be ordered for a comprehensive code to be used. Do not use a CBC code for only two components (such as WBC with differential or H&H). Bill two components as the individual components.
