Laboratory Question for the Week of October 17, 2022

Question:

Can we report 88380 in conjunction with 88381?

Answer:

The CPT manual contains the instruction, “Do not report 88380 in conjunction with 88381.” An NCCI edit also indicates that you should not report both codes on the same date of service for the same specimen. When documentation supports billing of both codes, a modifier may be appended to CPT 88380.
