Laboratory Question for the Week of October 3, 2022

Question:

Do any new codes exist for reporting the transfusion of medicine-related GSP services?

Answer:

Two codes were created for reporting this service. Code 0246U is for genotype analysis of blood groups involving the expression of a minimum of 51 red blood cell antigens to assist clinicians in minimizing adverse blood–type incompatibility reactions. CPT 0282U was established for PCR and hybridization typing on whole blood to identify the alleles associated with 44 blood group antigens and potentially reduce alloimmunization in transfusion recipients.
