Laboratory Question for the Week of April 24, 2017

Question:

Is there any chance that CMS will change the deadline for reporting the private payer information needed to create the new CLFS?

Answer:

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) did recently extend the deadline for reporting private payer data to May 31, 2017 (from the originally required March 31, 2017). Of course, reporting entities are still free to report the applicable information before May 30, 2017. In its announcement about the delay, it also said that there will not be another delay for data submission because it needs sufficient time to calculate the Clinical Laboratory Fee Schedule  (CLFS) payment rates scheduled to go into effect on January 1, 2018.
