Question:

What kind of lab tests will be included in the new CPT® section on propriety lab analyses (PLAs)?

Answer:

On its website, the American Medical Association (AMA) says, “Tests with PLA codes must be performed on human specimens and must be requested by the clinical laboratory or the manufacturer that offers the test.”

The PLA code section includes (but is not limited to) advanced diagnostic laboratory tests (ADLTs) and clinical diagnostic laboratory tests (CDLTs). A wide range of tests are included in these categories, such as multianalyte assays with algorithmic analyses (MAAA) and genomic sequencing procedures (GSP).
