Question:

What code(s) is reported for a screening test for HIV infection?

Answer:

In transmittal 3778 (issued May 24, 2017), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) directed contractors to recognize the following HCPCS codes for claims processed on or after October 2, 2017. Note, however, that the effective date of service is April 13, 2015.

G0432 Infectious agent antibody detection by enzyme Immune assay (EIA) technique, qualitative or Semi-quantitative, multiple-step method, HIV-1 or HIV-2, screening
G0433 Infectious agent antibody detection by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technique, antibody,HIV-1 or HIV-2, screening
G0435 Infectious agent antibody detection by rapid antibody test of oral mucosa transudate, HIV-1 or HIV-2, screening. NOTE: Co-insurance and deductible do not apply
