Pharmacy Question for the Week of February 13, 2017

Question:

Do manufacturers pay rebates for Part D prescriptions filled at 340B-covered entities?

Answer:

Manufacturers do not always pay rebates for Part D prescriptions filled at 340B-covered entities and contract pharmacies since they already provide a discount on the purchase of the drug. The Medicare Part D program does not share in the purchase discounts, but, in a recent report, the Department of Health & Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) stated that the Medicare Part D program could save money if requirements similar to those of the Medicaid Drug Rebate Program were adopted.
