Pharmacy Question for the Week of March 16, 2020

Question:

Is the assignment of code G0480 dependent on the number of drug analytes?

Answer:

No, the assignment of HCPCS G0480-G0483 and G0659 is dependent on the number of drug classes (not drug analytes) that are analyzed. Separate reporting of a methodology CPT® from the Chemistry section is no longer applicable. Only one HCPCS from this section of codes is to be reported per day per specimen source. Testing for specimen adulteration is also considered inherent to the drug screen analysis and is not separately coded or billed.
