Pharmacy Question for the Week of November 12, 2018

Question:

I heard there was a new payment system for pharmaceuticals. Can you provide any information about this?

Answer:

On October 30, 2018, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) posted a proposed rule explaining the International Pricing Index (IPI) payment model. This model moves current payment levels to payment levels based on international prices. It would be phased in over a five-year period, apply to 50 percent of the country, and cover most drugs in Medicare Part B.
