Pharmacy Question for the Week of November 6, 2017

Question:

I am looking for Medicare billing instructions for calcimimetics delivered for AKI in an ESRD facility. Do you know where this information can be found?

Answer:

One place to find this answer is in transmittal 1941 (issued on October 27, 2017). In this one-time notification (OTN), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) provide details on its transitional drug add-on payment adjustment (TDAPA) policy for patients with acute kidney injury (AKI) who are treated in a hospital-based and freestanding end-stage renal disease (ESRD) facility. For this transmittal, go to https://www.cms.gov/Regulations-and-Guidance/Guidance/Transmittals/2017Downloads/R1941OTN.pdf.
