What codes would be used for a non-PET myocardial perfusion scan?
Answer:
For myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI), you would choose from the code range 78451–78454.
| 78452 | multiple studies, at rest and/or stress (exercise or pharmacologic) and/or redistribution and/or rest reinjection |
| 78453 | single study, at rest or stress (exercise or pharmacologic) |
| 78454 | multiple studies, at rest and/or stress (exercise or pharmacologic) and/or redistribution and/or rest reinjection |
As you can see by the descriptors, these all-inclusive codes include wall-motion and ejection- fraction studies. The radiopharmaceutical is still reported with the appropriate HCPCS code.
