Radiology Question for the Week of August 27, 2018

Question:

Which code should be billed for a L5 selective nerve root block? Our radiologist doesn’t think it should be billed as a 64483 because it is not a transforaminal injection, but rather 64493.

Answer:

You need to find out what technique the doctor used. If he is saying 64493, then he probably did a facet joint nerve injection. He has said it was not transforaminal, so you should not report 64483.
