Radiology Question for the Week of December 24, 2018

Question:

Can you clarify the requirements for concurrent supervision for 3D reconstruction CPT codes 76376 and 76377?

Answer:

Concurrent supervision means that the physician should actively participate in and monitor the reconstruction process.  This includes:

  • Design of the anatomic region that is to be reconstructed
  • Determination of the tissue types and actual structures to be displayed (e.g., bone, organs, and vessels)
  • Determination of the images or cine loops that are to be archived
  • Monitoring and adjustment of the 3D work product.

The physician does not have to actually DO the reconstructions but must participate in the process by supervising the technologist in the above ways.
