Question:
When, if ever, is it appropriate to bill a chest CT (with or without contrast) as well as a CTA on the same date of service? What if there are two clearly independent indications and independent physician orders?
Answer:
When two separate exams are ordered, medically necessary and separately performed, you may bill both the CT with and without contrast and a CTA. There must be two separate exam acquisitions, not a single CT exam where the images were then reformatted into a CTA.
