Radiology Question for the Week of February 24, 2020

Question:

What code would I report for the normal head CT with and without IV contrast? There are no expansive or destructive osseous lesions.

Answer:

In this situation, report code 70470. If the patient is scanned in one projection, and software is used to process the initial data into another plane, no additional coding for this portion of the service should be added.

70470 Computed tomography, head or brain; without contrast material, followed by contrast material(s) and further sections
