Radiology Question for the Week of February 8, 2021

Question:

What is the appropriate code for a percutaneous biopsy of the lung?

Answer:

Beginning January 1, 2021, code 32405 was deleted and a new code 32408 was created for percutaneous core needle biopsy of the lung or mediastinum. This code also includes imaging guidance when performed. Therefore, it is not appropriate to report 76942, 77002, 77012, or 77021 with 32408. The code description is 32408 Core needle biopsy, lung or mediastinum, percutaneous, including imaging guidance when performed.
