Question:
When will CMS implement its appropriate use criteria (AUC)?
Answer:
In the 2017 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule final rule, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) stated that it will implement the AUC/clinical decision support mechanism (CDSM) program on January 1, 2018. Implementation will apply to orders for all advanced diagnostic imaging services, not limited to priority clinical areas as previously planned.
