Radiology Question for the Week of July 24, 2023

Question:

Would the sacroiliac joint be a medium or large joint?

Answer:

The SI joint is anatomically one of the larger joints in the body. An injection of the SI joint with an anesthetic or steroid is coded with 27096, which is specific to the SI joint. For Medicare, hospital outpatient charges, utilized G0259 in place of 27096 to capture this service.
