Question:

Would the physician charge for both 93016 and 93018? Would a physician ever report code 93017 for his individual portion of the procedure?

Answer:

While a physician would never report code 93017 for his/her portion of the procedure, it is possible for the same physician to charge both code 93016 and 93018. A common scenario when both of these codes would be used is when a single physician both supervises and performs a cardiovascular stress test in a hospital setting (on equipment owned by the facility) and provides the written report. Whether or not this physician also performed and interpreted the MR cardiology study(s) is irrelevant as the codes for the stress test are not affected by whether or not codes from the 755xx series are also used.
