Radiology Question for the Week of March 25, 2019

Question:

Are C-codes still applicable for MRI breast with or without contrast? If computer-aided detection (CAD) is done, what C-code would I use?

Answer:

For MRI breast with contrast or without and with contrast, hospitals billing under OPPS will continue to bill the appropriate C-codes (C8903, C8905, C8906, C8908), and, if CAD is done, then you would bill the following new code:

C8937 CAD, including computer algorithm analysis of breast MRI image data for lesion detection/characterization, pharmacokinetic analysis, with further physician review for interpretation (list separately in addition to code for primary procedure)

The CAD code is packaged and not paid separately but should be reported.
