Radiology Question for the Week of March 6, 2017

Question:

What key words need to be in the radiology report to assign a CTA code?

Answer:

The report must document 3D reformatted images. Look for the following key terms, which indicate 3D reformatting qualifying for complex renderings: shaded surface, volumetric rendering, quantitative analysis (segmental volumes and surgical planning), and maximum intensity projections (MIPs). Remember: Al¬though these are the same key words to look for when assigning codes 76376 and 76377, the 3D rendering codes are considered bundled into the CTA codes and are assigned in conjunction with the standard CT codes.
