Question:

Do you have any additional tips for modifier GG?

Answer:

Modifier GG is used like all other modifiers to describe a particular circumstance that affects payment, assists in specifically describing the procedure performed, and allows Medicare to track when both a screening and diagnostic study(s) are performed on the same date of service. Always remember that when it is appropriate to use a modifier, be sure to use the most specific modifier that adds clarity to the procedure performed. Consult your MAC’s LCDs to become acquainted with the conditions and/or diagnoses that make a patient eligible for a diagnostic mammogram. More information on this topic can be found in Appendix A.
