Radiology Question for the Week of September 23, 2019

Question:

How do I code if both FNA biopsy and core biopsy are performed at the same session on the same lesion using the same type of imaging guidance?

Answer:

Per CPT®, assign the modality-specific fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy code and the organ-specific core biopsy code, but do not also assign a separate modality-specific guidance code that was used for the core biopsy.
