Radiology Question for the Week of November 6, 2017

Question:

What is the correct CPT® code for PET/CT heart for sarcoidosis using FDG?

Answer:

For non-Medicare patients, PET/CT of the heart would be 78814, assuming that the PET/CT was performed on an integrated unit.

78814 Positron emission tomography (PET) with concurrently acquired computed tomography (CT) for attenuation correction and anatomical localization imaging; limited area (e.g., chest, head/neck)

For Medicare patients, since this is not a covered indication, report code G0235 (PET imaging, any site, not otherwise specified).
