Respiratory Question for the Week of April 6, 2020

Question:

Can we bill for spirometry and bronchospasm evaluation performed on the same day?

Answer:

No, spirometry (94010) is a component of bronchospasm evaluation (94060 or 94070) and the codes can not be reported separately when performed on the same day. Keep in mind this general rule of thumb: report the single most comprehensive code that represents the testing performed – especially in the case of pulmonary function testing where multiple tests and combinations of tests may be ordered and performed.
