Respiratory Question for the Week of January 9, 2017

Question:

We are trying to develop a document that helps physicians document the need for home oxygen therapy. Can you provide any guidance about this?

Answer:

To assist physicians in better documenting their medical records, for Medicare purposes, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is developing a list of clinical data elements (CDEs) that would allow electronic health record vendors to create prompts to assist physicians when documenting the need for home oxygen therapy: 1) order 2) face-to-face encounter and 3) lab test results. In addition, CMS has created visual examples to demonstrate how the prompts might look in production templates.
