Question:

Are the additional 30 minutes included with codes 95816-95822?

Answer:

The reimbursement assigned to codes 95816–95822 includes the additional 30–60 minutes of preparation and documentation time associated with the procedure. This additional time does not affect the code assignment. The guidelines that accompany these codes state that the average recording time is 20–40 minutes. However, the individual codes do not include a defined time limit. The number of recording pages generated during these routine EEGs is fairly predictable.
