Respiratory Question for the Week of March 8, 2021

Question:

What is the difference in intent with codes 95812 and 98513?

Answer:

Codes 95812 and 95813 differ in purpose from these routine EEGs, and the number of pages for the extended monitoring is significantly greater. Note, it is not appropriate to assign codes 95816–95822 to a routine EEG that extends past 40 minutes.

95812 Electroencephalogram (EEG) extended monitoring; 41-60 minutes
95813 Electroencephalogram (EEG) extended monitoring; 61-119 minutes
