Respiratory Question for the Week of October 2, 2023

Question:

For car seat testing can we report either codes 94780 and 94781 for a re-check of an infant who is several months old?

Answer:

CPT® Assistant, May 2015, clarified that codes 94780 (Car seat/bed testing for airway integrity, for infants through 12 months of age, with continual nursing observation and continuous recording of pulse oximetry, heart rate and respiratory rate, with interpretation and report; 60 minutes) and +94781 (Car seat/bed testing for airway integrity, for infants through 12 months of age, with continual nursing observation and continuous recording of pulse oximetry, heart rate, and respiratory rate, with interpretation and report; each additional full 30 minutes [List separately in addition to code for primary procedure]) may not be reported for a re-check of an infant who is several months old. These codes are only applicable to neonates.
