Respiratory Question for the Week of December 18, 2017

Question:

For 2018, should we continue to use 94620 for pulmonary stress testing?

Answer:

Effective January 1, 2018, CPT® code 94620 has been deleted and replaced with two new codes—94617 and 94618—to distinguish the six-minute walk and pre- and post-exercise spirometry components of this service.

94617 Exercise test for bronchospasm, including pre- and post-spirometry, electrocardiographic recording(s), and pulse oximetry
94618 Pulmonary stress testing (eg, 6-minute walk test), including measurement of heart rate, oximetry, and oxygen titration, when performed
