Question:

A diagnostic heart cath with coronary angiogram was done with a stent placement.  Three hours later the patient complains of pain and returns to the cath lab for another coronary angiogram.  Can we code both?

Answer:

Yes, you can code both coronary angiograms.  The second one was at a different session and is performed because the patient’s condition changed. You will need to assign modifier -59, but you can bill it.
