Radiology Question for the Week of February 25, 2019

Question:

Are referring physicians supposed to bill a G-code for shared decision-making discussions had for every follow-up low-dose lung screen CT (LDCT), or do they only bill it for the initial screen?

Answer:

The counseling and shared decision-making visit are only required before the first LDCT is performed. After that, it only requires a written order for the exam.

If the referring physician chooses to do a counseling and shared decision-making visit each year, all of the requirements of the first visit must be met.
