Cardiology Question for the Week of January 25, 2021

Question:

Do you have any tips for new code 33741?

Answer:

Code 33741 does not allow assignment of modifier 63 which refers to a procedure performed on infants less than 4kg. Additionally, when this procedure is performed via a transseptal puncture, code 93462 should also be assigned. If a true diagnostic cardiac catheterization is performed at the same time as the procedure defined by 33741, this is not included and may be separately coded.

33741 Transcatheter atrial septostomy (TAS) for congenital cardiac anomalies to create effective atrial flow, including all imaging guidance by the proceduralist, when performed, any method (e.g., Rashkind, Sang-Park, balloon, cutting balloon, blade)
