Cardiology Question for the Week of January 3, 2022

Question:

How many times may code 92941 be reported? We treated three vessels during a myocardial infarction (MI).

Answer:

Code 92941 should be reported only once for the lesion that is causing the MI (the culprit lesion/vessel). In the rare situation where two or more vessels are considered culprit vessels, report treatment for one as 92941 and report the appropriate angioplasty, stenting, or atherectomy code for the other(s).
