Cardiology Question for the Week of November 8, 2021

Question:

As a follow-up to last week’s question, should biventricular lead insertion into the coronary sinus be unsuccessful, what modifier would we use for coding 33224 and 33225 when reporting hospital outpatient claims?

Answer:

Assign modifier 74 (discontinued service after administration of anesthesia) for hospital outpatient claims. Verify the policy of your local payer. Ensure that the documentation supports that the majority of work has been performed (such as “multiple attempts, venogram”).
