Cardiology Question for the Week of September 13, 2021

Question:

Code 92941 is for the treatment of a total or subtotal occlusion during an acute myocardial infarction. Is there a definition of what qualifies as a “subtotal” occlusion?

Answer:

Subtotal is anything less than total, in other words, less than a complete occlusion. For code 92941, what matters is not how occluded the artery is but that the occlusion is causing the acute myocardial infarction.
