We explanted the dual-system permanent pacemaker and then we implanted two new leads and attached them to the existing pacemaker on the other side of the chest. I can’t find one CPT code that captures what we did. Can you offer me insight into how you would code this?
Answer:
There isn’t one code that covers this procedure. As with many of the pacemaker/ICD procedures, it takes multiple codes to cover what was done. In this case, you would report the following:
33222 | Relocation of skin pocket for pacemaker |
33235 | Removal of transvenous pacemaker electrode(s); dual lead system |
33217 | Insertion of 2 transvenous electrodes, permanent pacemaker or implantable defibrillator |
