Question:

How do you code automated breast ultrasound? Can we code 3D?

Answer:

For an automated breast ultrasound, you would assign one of the following codes just as you would for a non-automated ultrasound:

76641 Ultrasound, breast, unilateral, real time with image documentation, including axilla when performed; complete
76642 limited

If 3D post-processing under concurrent physician supervision is performed, you could assign one of the following codes; however, generally the software creates the 3D automatically and post-processing is not performed.

76376 3D rendering with interpretation and reporting of computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, or other tomographic modality with image postprocessing under concurrent supervision; not requiring image postprocessing on an independent workstation
76377 requiring image postprocessing on an independent workstation
