Question:

Last week’s answer to pediatric echocardiograms made me wonder what codes would be assigned for the congenital echocardiogram.

Answer:

When an echo is performed to identify congenital cardiac anomalies, the following would be correct: Codes 93303 and 93304 if no contrast is used, and C8921 and C8922 for echos with contrast.

93303 Transthoracic echocardiography for congenital cardiac anomalies; complete
93304 follow-up or limited study
C8921 Transthoracic echocardiography with contrast, or without contrast followed by with contrast, for congenital cardiac anomalies; complete
C8922 follow-up or limited study
