Cardiology Question for the Week of October 9, 2017

Last week’s answer to pediatric echocardiograms made me wonder what codes would be assigned for the congenital echocardiogram.

When an echo is performed to identify congenital cardiac anomalies, the following would be correct: Codes 93303 and 93304 if no contrast is used, and C8921 and C8922 for echos with contrast.

93303 Transthoracic echocardiography for congenital cardiac anomalies; complete
93304 follow-up or limited study
C8921 Transthoracic echocardiography with contrast, or without contrast followed by with contrast, for congenital cardiac anomalies; complete
C8922 follow-up or limited study
