What system are drugs furnished to hospital outpatients paid under?
Answer:
Most drugs furnished to hospital outpatients are packaged under the OPPS. The cost of packaged drugs is separately reportable and recognized by Medicare—however, reimbursement is included with and paid as part of the APC for the service with which they are billed. In other words, no separate payment is received from Medicare for the packaged drug.
