Pharmacy Question for the Week of February 21, 2022

Question:

For intravenous drug infusion, is it necessary to identify whether the time of observation services is billable in addition to the time for highly complex drug administration?

Answer:

When administering intravenous drugs during an observation stay, it is necessary to identify whether the time of observation services is billable in addition to the time for highly complex drug administration infusions requiring bedside monitoring. Adjustments should be made based on the time recorded for complex infusions that require bedside monitoring by the nurse or dose titration.
