Pharmacy Question for the Week of November 9, 2020

Question:

How do we bill for drug administration when nursing documentation for intravenous infusion does not note the stop time?

Answer:

When nursing documentation for an intravenous infusion does not include a reference to the stop time, the drug administration may be billed as an IV push only if the regional Medicare contractor has published an instruction to do so. It is not acceptable to assume that a drug was administered over a specified time increment.
